Pair named top scholars in H.P.
The Holland Patent Central School District has announced the district’s standard bearers for the Class of 2017.
Class valedictorian is Abbegail Herkel, daughter of Jennifer and Brian Herkel of Barneveld.
Herkel has been involved in a number of extracurricular activities including National Honor Society, Student Council, Symphonic Band, Yearbook Club and International Club.
Her accomplishments during her high school career include the AP Scholar Award, the Smith Book Award, and was also a member of the High Honor Roll from 2012-2016.
Herkel plans on attending Marist College in the fall. She is undecided on her major but has an interest in chemistry, psychology, and a foreign exchange student program.
Serving as salutatorian is Christiana Rowlands, daughter of Joseph and Deborah Rowlands of Steuben. Rowlands is a member of the National Honor Society and has been on High Honor Roll throughout her four years of High School. She has received academic awards and citizenship awards as part of the Character Education Program.
Rowlands participated in Varsity track and was the team captain of the Varsity Soccer program. She was also a member of the Odyssey Sport Soccer Club in Oneida.
Rowlands will be attending Nazareth College in the fall to study occupational therapy.
