MVCC announces annual Dyer Award recipient
Mohawk Valley Community College graduate Cassandra Rogers has received this year’s Dr. Jim Dyer Award for Academic Excellence.
Rogers, of West Edmeston, a liberal arts graduate with the highest grade point average, is a 2015 graduate and valedictorian of Brookfield Central School, who graduated from MVCC in May.
She will be continuing her education this fall at SUNY Binghamton majoring in sociology.
The award, founded by faculty at MVCC in honor of Dr. Jim Dyer, honors the liberal arts graduate with the highest GPA in the humanities.
Dyer served MVCC for nearly 50 years, joining the full-time faculty from 1968 until his retirement in 1996, upon which the Board of Trustees named him professor emeritus.
Dyer continued to teach part-time until 2011, MVCC officials said. He taught English composition and literature, and received the 1978 award for Excellence in Service.
He died in May 2012.
