BOE to consider hirings, new positions Wednesday
Creating additional Rome school district assistant coach positions, and custodial staff hirings to fill several vacancies, are among items to be considered Wednesday night by the Board of Education.
The board meets at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ridge Mills Elementary School, 7841 Ridge Mills Road. On the agenda:
• A resolution to create positions includes three assistant coaches — one each for baseball, boys’ soccer, and girls’ soccer.
Five other assistant coach positions — for wrestling, boys’ and girls’ basketball, boys’ lacrosse and girls’ softball — were created by the board at its Nov. 2 meeting. District officials said the positions are geared to provide more flexibility including if an injury at an athletic event on the road requires a coach to stay with a student, and to free up head coaches to work more with younger grade levels in developing programs.
• A resolution to appoint probationary non-instructional positions includes Justin Rutz and Scott Campbell as custodial workers each at a rate of $14.27 per hour, and Christopher Carey and Timothy Yates as custodians at salaries of $39,153 apiece including a pro-rated shift differential.
Carey and Yates are filling vacancies due to retirements, while Rutz and Campbell are filling positions vacated by transfers to other custodial positions, according to the district personnel department. The custodial staff has had a “large number of retirees” since August, said district Superintendent of Buildings and Grounds Paul Rabbia.
