BOCES agencies earn honors
BOCES agencies based in Verona and New Hartford earned honors in the New York School Public Relations Association’s 2017 annual Communications Awards.
The awards recognize schools and BOCES agencies statewide for outstanding print, visual and digital communication work.
• Madison-Oneida BOCES, in Verona, said it received two awards.
They included an award of excellence in the Social Media category for a series of tweets about Construction Careers Day, an industry-focused event hosted at that BOCES; and an award of honor in the Excellence in Writing category for “Students Learn to Solve Rubik’s cube,” an article on a BOCES teacher’s challenge to students.
Madison-Oneida BOCES serves students from Rome, Camden, Canastota, Hamilton, Madison, Morrisville-Eaton, New York State School for the Deaf, Oneida, Stockbridge-Valley and Vernon-Verona-Sherrill.
• Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES, based in New Hartford, said it was recognized with 12 awards. Four were awards of excellence, the highest level of recognition; one was an award of honor, the second-place level; and seven were awards of merit, the third-place level.
Awards of excellence included two for the Utica City School District’s 2016-17 calendar, in the Calendar and Overall Graphics and Design categories; an article titled “Whitesboro High School Technology Teacher Builds Prosthetic Hand for Student;” and the 2017-18 Career & Technical Education Center Program Guide.
Receiving an award of honor was an article, “Curriculum Exchange Program Gives Students Opportunities Outside of Their District.” Entries receiving awards of merit were in categories including Budget/Bond Newsletter; Writing; and Special Purpose.
Oneida-Herkimer-Madison BOCES serves students from Brookfield, Clinton, Holland Patent, New Hartford, New York Mills, Oriskany, Remsen, Sauquoit Valley, Utica, Waterville, Westmoreland and Whitesboro.
