Sally Hinman, corporate secretary of Rome Strip Steel, has been named the 2012 Smart Woman by the Rome Hospital Foundation.
The award is presented each year at the annual Pink Partini Fashion Show scheduled for 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23 at The Beeches Inn & Conference Center on Turin Road. Tickets are $55 per person and may be obtained with required reservations by calling the Rome Hospital Foundation at 338-7181.
Ms. Hinman was selected because of her "outstanding community service," foundation officials said. She has been involved with numerous organizations throughout the area including the Rome Memorial Hospital Board, the Salvation Army, Jervis Library, Big Brothers Big Sisters, the United Way of Rome and Western Oneida County, and the Go Red for Women Campaign of the American Heart Association.
According to the nomination form submitted on behalf of Ms. Hinman, "it is her behind the scenes actions that make her such an asset to our community."
Described as efficient, bright, energetic, caring, generous and organized, "her name bubbled to the top" said Mary Carmel Wolf, Chair of the Smart Woman Award Committee, and recipient of the first Smart Woman Award. This is the 5th year the award will be presented.
The Pink Partini Fashion Show, sponsored by Mohawk Valley Women’s Health Associates, raises funds for women’s health services at Rome Memorial Hospital. This year’s fund-raiser, co-chaired by Muffy Engelbert and Florence Kaplan, will feature fashions from Coldwater Creek, The Princess Shop, The Village Crossing, Schuss Ski and Bike, Krizia Martin and others.
