VERNON — The favorite Yankees In Six rewarded his owners with a victory in Saturday night’s featured $11,000 open pace, while the hard-charging Potala Prince produced an odd-distance track record in a later race on the 11-event card.
Yankees In Six got away and gained the lead entering the final furlong and sprinted to a half-length victory over Forty Carrots in a time of 1:51.1. Brian Connor did the steering for the Robert J. Orr/Gary Jonas ownership contingent as Yankees In Six raised his lifetime earnings to $185,308.
During Saturday’s fifth race, the second-annual Dashtonian, eight eager pacers vied for a $4,200 purse in a half-mile dash. With trainer Adam Capizzano at the controls, Potala Prince took the lead early and scored a win with a time of 54.1, trimming a full second off the previous track mark for the distance.
Connor went on to record his second triple of the meet.
Vernon will host a New York Sires Stakes-sponsored contest for 2-year-old filly pacers on Wednesday night, racing set to start at 6:55.
