Garden Buffet Aug. 9
at Constable Hall

CONSTABLEVILLE — Constable Hall, 5909 John Street, east of Route 26, holds its annual Garden Buffet, (the Gala and Garden Picnic), on Thursday, Aug. 9 in celebration of the historic formal garden designed by Mary Eliza McVickar Constable in the 1830s.

Tickets at $25 for adults and $20 for students can be purchased at the Hall, from Constable Hall Association Board Members or Allen’s Jewelry in Boonville.

The historic home will be offering tours of the Hall and garden as well as a buffet and entertainment. The buffet will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a concert featuring the Floyd Community Instrumental Ensemble to follow at 7.

The dinner is organized by board member Roger Abbey and will include barbecue chicken and spare ribs prepared by the Lyons Falls Fire Department as well as salads from McManus’ Hotel and baked beans from Steak and Brew.

Originating as a brass quintet performing at church services in 1984, the Floyd Community Instrumental Ensemble has grown to comprise approximately 50 volunteer members of various musical backgrounds. Now in its 28th season, the band is featured at a variety of public venues throughout the summer, performing music from America’s "Big Band Era" as well as hit music made famous by groups and musicians such as Creedence Clearwater Revival, Glen Campbell and Disney.

Constable Hall is a limestone Georgian-style home completed in 1819 by William Constable Jr.
