Farm disaster class offered

WHITESTOWN — Cornell Cooperative Extension is offering a two-day National training disaster preparedness workshop for area firefighters, EMT’s and first responders. The training will help them prepare for a response to accidents involving farm vehicles on the road or the farm, farm fires or structure collapse, and storm damage.

Preregistration for the workshop is required by June 25 by contacting Bonnie Collins 736-3394 x 104 or email bsc33@cornell.edu.

The program will be limited to 30 participants; the fee for the two-day workshop is $90 and includes lunch, information materials and a uniform patch.

Recent events in New York State and in our own county have proven that we cannot predict when or how a catastrophe will happen, but we can be prepared by offering this training for those that could help control the outcome when disaster strikes, extension officials said.

All emergency responders are invited to attend this training at the Extension office, 121 Second St., June 30 from 8 a.m.- 5 p.m., and July 1 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

The workshop will include classroom instruction, visits to two local dairy farms, and an equipment entrapment demonstration.
