Police seek help about Utica shooting and fleeing vehicle

A young Utica girl was struck by a motor vehicle in the Cornhill district Thursday afternoon, and law enforcers believe that vehicle was fleeing the scene of a shooting.

The girl, whose identity was not released, was treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Police said shots were fired in the 1500 block of Dudley Ave. at about 6:43 p.m. This was the sixth ‘shots fired’ call in that same block since April. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a young girl who had been struck by a fleeing vehicle. Authorities said the girl was treated by responding rescue personnel.

A short time later, police said a man who suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest drove himself to St. Elizabeth Medical Center. The victim is not cooperating with police, they said, and his identity has also not been released.

"Of all the calls we get there, we don’t get a lot of cooperation," said Utica Sgt. Steve Hauck. Police are still investigating what has been behind all of the shootings on Dudley Avenue. No arrests have been made after Thursday night’s incident.

Anyone with information about the shooting and the fleeing vehicle is asked to call investigators at 233-3510. All calls will be kept confidential.
