College officials said you can kick start a career in photovoltaics and solar panel installation with training at Mohawk Valley Community College.
Enrollment will be taken on a first come basis with registration at 792-5300 or visit mvcc.edu/cced.
Intro to Photovoltaic Systems is a 40-hour theory and hands-on installation course. Solar site analysis, design, layout and installation of photovoltaic systems are presented. The course is designed to develop student understanding of components and systems and their integration into the electrical systems in the home. Students should have a basic understanding of applied electricity and be able to perform basic arithmetic computation. A basic scientific calculator is required. This class will take place 8 a.m.-5 p.m., July 9-13 on the Utica campus. The cost is $695.
PV 101 Online is a solar training course that establishes fundamental concepts required for safe, code-compliant design and installation of photovoltaic systems, with a focus on residential-sized grid-direct solar electric systems. The goal of the course is to create a fundamental understanding of the core concepts necessary to work with all systems. This six-week online course does not include hands-on experience. Course materials are included. This course begins on June 18 and ends on July 29. The cost is $795.
PV 202 Online is an online solar training workshop that builds upon the core concepts from PV101, expanding them to more complex grid-direct systems. PV202 focuses significantly on the National Electrical Code. Course materials are included. Prerequisite: PV 101. This class begins on Sept. 3 and ends on Oct. 14. The cost is $795.
Office hours are 8:30 a.m.-7 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. on Friday.
