Warm-weather roadwork is well under way on county roads and bridges. Orange caution pylons and signs can already be seen around the county.
Here’s a rundown of projects on this year’s "to do" list at the Highways and Bridges Division at Public Works.
Public Works Commissioner Dennis Davis reports that blacktop costs in the neighborhood of $58 to $60 a ton this year. Paving projects, including related work, will cost an estimated $1,850,000. New paving projects, including tree removal, drainage improvements and guiderail upgrades, total slightly more than nine miles. The locations, with approximate distances and costs, include:
-- Webster Hill Road (Ava) from Sage Road northerly for 1.14 miles; $200,000.
-- Hayes/Florence Hill Road (Florence) from Billing/Dooley Road to Westdale Road, 1.64 miles; $300,000.
-- North Lake Road (Forestport) from 2010 paving job going east 1.67 miles, or the middle third of this road; $300,000
-- Paris Hill Road (Paris) from Oneida Street westerly 0.93 miles; $200,000.
-- Powell Road (Trenton) middle third of this road that runs from the Village of Holland Patent to Trenton Road, 1.30 miles; $200,000.
-- Marble Hill Road (Vernon) from Eaton Road to Peterboro Road, 1.03 miles; $200,000.
-- Dix Road (Westmoreland) from Bartlett Road to Lawrence Street. 1.38 miles; $225,000.
Also, two paving projects started last year are slated completion in this year. They cover about 2.54 miles:
-- Fountain Street (Kirkland) from the Village of Clinton Southerly for 1.3 miles; $225,000.
-- Starr Hill Road (Steuben) from Sixty Road westerly for 1.24 miles; $200,000
About 58 miles of road surfaces are on the list to be sealed with oil-and-stone application this year. It costs about $11,000 a mile, depending on road width, for oil-and-stone application, according to Davis. Projected cost is around $650,000.

-- Church Street (Paris) from Village of Clayville to Mohawk Street, 1.01 miles.
-- Mohawk Street (Paris and New Hartford) from Church Street to Higby Road, 4.15 miles.
-- Higby Road (New Hartford) from Tilden Avenue to Herkimer County line, 1 mile.
-- Chapman Road (New Hartford) from Oneida Street to Higby Road, 1.28 miles.
-- Valley View (new Hartford) from Higby Road to City of Utica, 1.18 miles.
-- South Street (Westmoreland) from Deans Highway to Fairway Drive, 1.93 miles.
-- Clark Mills Road (Whitestown) from Westmoreland Road to Halsey Road, 2.06 miles.
-- Halsey Road (Whitestown) from Westmoreland Road to Clark Mills Road, 1.66 miles.
-- Valley Road (Whitestown) from Route 840 to Village of Oriskany, 1.48 miles.
-- Airport Road (Whitestown) from Route 69 to Route 840, 1.23 miles.
-- Monument Road (Whitestown) from Coleman Mills Road to Route 69, 0.73 miles.
-- Glass Factory Road (Marcy and Trenton) from Seavy Road to Powell Road, 3.46 miles.
-- Fox Road (marcy and Trenton) from Route 291 to Village of Holland Patent, 5.37 miles.
-- Pritchard Road (Remsen and Steuben) from Route 12 to Old Route 12, 0.78 miles.
-- Koenig Road (Floyd) from Route 365 to River Road, 2.18 miles.
-- Trenton Road (Deerfield) from City of Utica to Powell Road, 6.72 miles.
-- Verona Mills and Senn Roads (Verona) from Main Street to Greenway Road, 2.07 miles.
-- Blackmans Corners Road (Verona) from Verona Mills Road to Greenway Lowell Road, 3.66 miles.
-- Elmer Hill Road (Lee and Rome) from Route 26 to Route 46, 3.31 miles.
-- Blossvale Road (Annsville) from Main Street, Taberg, to McConnellsville Road, 2.23 miles.
-- Florence Hill Road (Florence and Camden) from Metot Road to Village of Camden, 8.46 miles.
Additionally, three bridge projects, all contracted out, are in the works:
-- Town of Annsville, Coal Hill Road, replacement, $450,272
-- Town of Camden, Cemetery Road, replacement, $585,137.
-- Town of New Hartford, Pleasant Street, precast box culvert, $363,605.
