Man gets jail for harassing woman

A man convicted of harassing a woman by following her throughout the city was sentenced by Judge Daniel C. Wilson in City Court Friday.

Hennessy C. Hawkins, 35, of 603 S. James St., was sentenced to four days in county jail and ordered to pay a $120 surcharge on a count of disorderly conduct, to run concurrent on a sentence of four days in county jail on a count of second-degree harassment. An order of protection was also issued against him. A count of fourth-degree stalking was dismissed.

Police said at 9 a.m. April 9, Hawkins followed a woman from 6155 Dewey Road throughout the city and continuously called, texted and made personal contact with the victim after being told to stop following her.

Also in City Court:

¿ Bail was set at a total $3,000 for Benji L. Dyer, 41, of 401 Healy Ave., charged with three counts of second-degree criminal contempt and one count each of resisting arrest and fourth-degree criminal mischief. His cases were adjourned to May 25.

Police said at 11:30 p.m. April 17, Dyer disobeyed a court order of protection issued out of City Court Jan. 27 by arriving to his residence and being in the presence of a woman. And at 1:26 a.m. April 30, Dyer again violated an order of protection when he arrived to the front of his residence and banged on the front door, asking the victim if he could enter.

He also damaged the woman’s cell phone as she attempted to call police to report the incident, police said. Also at 6:26 p.m. May 17, Dyer violated the order of protection by being in the presence of the protected party at his residence. He also barricaded himself inside the house to prevent officers from taking him into custody on an arrest warrant, police said.

¿ A preliminary exam was waived in the case of Dustin A. Becraft, 17, of 830 Croton St., charged with third-degree burglary. His case was held for the county grand jury.

Police said at 11:04 p.m. April 30, Becraft remained in American Metal Stamping and Spinning at 200 Railroad St. after breaking a window to steal a video surveillance camera from the building.

¿ The case of Cameron J. Frazier, 22, of 214 W. Thomas St., Apt. 5, on a count of third-degree attempted robbery, was held for the county grand jury.

Police said at 2:20 p.m. Jan. 14, Frazier forcibly stole a woman’s Droid cell phone worth about $55 by choking her and slamming her head into a car window during a domestic dispute at the corner of Thomas Street and Floyd Avenue.

¿ Antoine D. Williams, 20, of 608 W. Dominick St., was sentenced Friday to three days in county jail and ordered to pay a $120 surcharge on a count of trespass. An order of protection was also issued against him. A count of disorderly conduct was dismissed.

Police said at 3:15 p.m. April 30, while at 901 W. Dominick St., Williams stayed inside a woman’s residence without her permission.

¿ Bail was set at $250 Monday for Luis J. Arce, 21, of 610 Black River Blvd., charged with disorderly conduct. His case was adjourned to May 24.

Police said at 6:30 p.m. May 20, while in the 300 block of N. James St., Arce used obscene language after being told numerous times to stop by law enforcement.
