A domestic dispute in the parking lot of CPJ’s Restaurant and Pub on Floyd Avenue led to charges against a 30-year-old man Thursday afternoon.

Police said Clayton J. Martin IV, 30, of Floyd Avenue, was involved in an ongoing dispute with his 29-year-old ex-companion at about 5:25 p.m. Thursday. In a statement to police, the victim said they were arguing during a custody exchange, and were driving in separate vehicles to Martin’s residence. The victim said she pulled into the parking lot of CPJ’s, where Martin confronted her while she remained in her vehicle.

Police said Martin reached through the woman’s driver’s side window and grabbed her around the neck. The couple’s young son was in the vehicle at the time and witnessed the attack.

Martin is charged with criminal strangulation and endangering the welfare of a child, both misdemeanors, police stated. He was held in lockup overnight to await arraignment today in City Court.
