VERNON — Spending is going down and taxpayers will see no changes in their tax bills according to the 2012-13 village budget adopted Monday.
The total general fund for 2012-13 is $648,790.52, which is $274,367.30 less than the current spending plan. The tax levy, or amount to be raised by taxes, is $217,471.85 — the same as the current budget. Also remaining the same is the tax rate, which will stay at $5.64 per $1,000 assessed valuation for 2012-13.
Village officials said there are no salary raises scheduled for elected officials in 2012-13. However, village employees got a 2 percent raise, while the police received a 2.5 percent raise as per a contractual agreement reached last year, officials said. There are five full-time village employees and about a dozen part-timers.
