Pair qualify for NCAA track and field championships
Hamilton College’s Cat Berry and Eli Saucier have qualified for the 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse’s Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex from May 24-26.
Berry, a junior, will compete in the women’s 200-meter dash for the second year in a row. She posted her qualifying time of 24.87 seconds on April 28 at the NESCAC championships where she finished first in the event. The preliminary heats of the 200 meters start at 4:15 p.m. Central time on Thursday and the final is scheduled for 2:50 p.m. Central time on Saturday. Berry placed 14th in the 200 meters at the 2017 NCAA championships. She set the program record in the 200 last year.
Saucier, a senior, will compete in the men’s 100-meter dash and the 200 meters as he makes his first appearance in the outdoor championships. He finished ninth in the 200 meters at the 2018 NCAA Division III indoor championships back in early March. Saucier finished second in the 100 meters at the NESCAC championships on April 28 with a qualifying time of 10.64 seconds.
He was runner-up in the 200 at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference Outdoor Championships with his qualifying performance of 21.47 seconds. He holds the school record in both events. The preliminary heats of the 200 meters begin at 4 p.m. Central time on Thursday and the prelims of the 100 meters start at 4:30 p.m. Central time on Friday. Saturday’s finals for the 100 and 200 are at 1:30 and 2:40 p.m., respectively.
