Mobile app will provide tracking for runners
UTICA — Boilermaker Road Race officials announced on Wednesday that they have contracted with the RaceJoy mobile app to provide runner tracking for the 2018 race.
The app is free and will allow runners to be tracked and it will allow spectators to track up to 20 runners on their mobile device.
With cell congestion expected, participants are encouraged to download and set the app up before the race by allowing for tracking or choosing the runners they wish to track. In addition, users are encouraged to open the app on their phone prior to arriving at the start line and to closely follow instructions on the app.
Runners are allowed to carry their phones but the use of headphones is still prohibited.
RaceJoy will allow spectators to send custom cheers to their runners along with tracking.
The 41st running of the Boilermaker will be on Sunday, July 8.
