NATIONAL CHAMPS — Rome native and Norwich University athletic director Tony Mariano poses with the national championsthip trophy that the Norwich women’s hockey team captured on March 17. Norwich defeated Elmira College, 2-1, to win the NCAA Division III championship. Last year, the Norwich men’s hockey team won the national title at the Utica Memorial Auditorium. Mariano is in his 26th year as the school’s athletic director. He was inducted into the Rome Sports Hall of Fame in 2001. Tony and his wife Gail reside in Northfield, Vt. Their son Tom is an associate dean of admissions at Hamilton College in Clinton, and his daughter-in–law Missy is the head field hockey coach at Hamilton College. (Photo submitted)
