HP, Clinton co-champions; Knights advance on PKs
CORTLAND — Top-seeded Holland Patent and second-seeded Clinton battled to a 1-1 tie after 110 minutes in the Section III Class B girls soccer final on Oct. 26, and the contest had to be decided by penalty kicks.
The teams played 80 minutes of regulation (two 40-minute halves), two 10-minute overtimes and two 5-minute sudden-win overtimes.
Per Section III rules, that resulted in both schools being declared co-champions, with penalty kicks being used to determine who would advance to represent Section III in Tuesday’s Class B regional semifinal game. The Golden Knights advanced 5-4 in penalty kicks, with Taylor Koenig scoring the game-winner.
HP, which improved to 18-1-1 overall, will play the Section X champion at G. Ray Bodley High School in Fulton at 6:30 Tuesday evening.
The Warriors, who finished their season at 16-2-1, had three players named to the Class B all-Section III team: seniors Sydri Dreimiller, a midfielder, and Elyse Jackson, a defender, and sophomore goalie Kaitlyn Williams.
The Golden Knights had a pair of seniors named to the Class B all-Section III squad, as forward Hannah Bochniak and defender Mayle Lupia-Eannace were honored.
