Musicians still needed for Kirkland Library’s Summer Jam

CLINTON — Kirkland Town Library, 55 1/2 College St., is looking for young musicians in grades 9-12 to join local musician Monk Rowe for an interactive workshop at noon on Tuesday, July 10.

Those interested may sign up at the library.

Participants will learn improvisation while playing swing and rock music “off the page.” Elementary-age musicians and their parents can join at 3 p.m.

All may attend the free concert on the library lawn at 4 p.m.

Literary Pen Pals

Library staff will match patrons with a fellow book-lover from California, Montana, Maine or North Carolina to exchange letters. The library will provide participants with all the supplies needed even mail the letters. Sign up at the library.

Reading Buddies

Elementary-aged children looking to get some reading practice are invited to meet with a teenage big buddy this summer. Both little and big buddies are needed; stop by the library or visit our website to sign up.

There will be an orientation session for big buddies on Thursday, June 28 at 3pm. Buddies will meet on Mondays, July 9, 16, 23 & 30 at 6pm.

Volunteers Needed

Volunteers are needed to help at the Friends of the Kirkland Town Library’s book sale on July 6, 7 and 8 on the Village Green. Stop by the library to choose a shift. Service hours are available for high school students.

Great American Read Out

Thursdays at 11:30 a.m. through Sept. 27

Meet supporters at the gazebo on the Village Green during the Clinton Farmers Market and hear selections from the 100 books chosen for PBS’s The Great American Read.

Special guests will read short excerpts from the books. 

Libraries Rock Puppet Show

Wednesday, June 27 at 2 p.m.

The Guild of Thespian Puppets will perform a kick-off to the library’s 2018 Summer Reading Program.

LEGO Club

Friday, June 29 at 2 p.m.

Come play with the library’s LEGO collection.

The library will be closed for Independence Day on Wednesday, July 4.

Afternoon Movie

Friday, July 6 at 2 p.m.

Come watch a family-friendly film on the library’s big screen. Rated PG. Check the library website for the movie title.

Art Show Opening

Tuesday, July 10 from 5-7 p.m.

All are welcome at an opening reception for Gail Strout’s exhibit “Lacy Quilts.”
