Kirkland Art Center offers camp, classes for kids

CLINTON — Kirkland Art Center, 9 1/2 E. Park Row, will host a themed Art Camp for children ages 5-11, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Cost for KAC members is $340 plus a $10 materials fee. For non-members it’s $375 plus the materials fee. Prices are per week.

Morning Session

9-10 a.m.: Welcome and warm up. Morning snack and recreational art activities.

10 a.m. to Noon: Monday through Friday: Art With Abbie. Kids art instructor, Abbie Cianfrocco, leads the students through engaging and brain stimulating art projects based on the chosen theme for the week.  

Noon to 12:30 p.m.: Lunch break, bring a boxed lunch from home.

Afternoon Session Begins

12:30-1 p.m.: Get outside: KAC staff get kids moving with a half-hour of indoor/outdoor physical activities, depending on the weather.

1-2 p.m.: Exploring Art History: KAC staffhands-on discussions and learning about works and techniques of artists from history.

2-3:30 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, Friday: Kids Improv Workshop featuring zany fun with veteran actor and director Pat StoneKids will ease into a new social and theatrical comfort zone during action-packed sessions.

2-3:30 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday: Science and Art: KAC staff introduce kids to the harmonious bond between science and art through the week’s theme.  

3:30-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday: Wrapping it up – KAC Staff lead the group as they chill and reflect. Light art, meditation and visualization, with Movie Day on Friday.

Classes have a minimum of five students. Registering children in groups ensures classes will run.

Other KAC Classes:

• Basic Drawing / Watercolor Painting with Trish Craig for ages 7-11, from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Wednesday, July 30 and 31, and Aug. 1. Cost is $85 or $90 for non-members.

Draw trees from observation on the Village Green. Create landscape and streetscape paintings, learning new watercolor and drawing techniques with experienced art instructor Trish Craig. Students should wear clothes that can get paint on them and pack a snack and drink. All materials are provided.

• Intermediate Drawing/Watercolor Painting with Trish Craig, for ages 10-14, from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Wednesday, Aug. 6, 7 and 8. Cost is $85 or $90 for non-members.

Draw from observation on the Village Green and in the KAC studio. Create several paintings throughout the class. Learn the best ways to mix paint, create washes, learn dry brush techniques and more with instructor Trish Craig. Students should wear clothes that can get paint on them and pack a snack and a drink. All materials are provided.
