Utica Housing Authority to host workshop for seniors

The Utica Municipal Housing Authority will sponsor a workshop on Medicare and Medicaid/ Services and Benefits for Seniors and the Disabled on Tuesday, Sept. 25.

It will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Utica Public Library, 303 Genesee St., second floor.  Parking is in the rear. The workshop is free and open to the public.

This workshop launches the autumn series of workshops presented by the AmeriCorps Utica Public Housing Outreach Center. Presentations on topics such as wellness, financial literacy, jobs, veteran services, and mental health will be offered.

Presenters will be Dennis Tuttle, Utica Municipal Housing Service Coordinator and Tim Dittfield, who was the Training Coordinator for the Oneida County Department of Social Services. Light refreshments will be served.

The workshop will cover topics such as Medicaid and Medicare as well as services for seniors and disabled such as home care, Home Energy Assistance Program, Food Stamps (SNAP), bill payer, Medicaid transportation, meals on wheels, and wheel chair transportation. 

It will include presentations as well as question and answer period. AmeriCorps members will be available to provide individual follow-up assistance.

Tuttle previously worked as National Grid consumer advocate, served as Intake and Referral Coordinator for the Oneida County Department of Social Services, and most recently was Mobility Manage for the Parkway Center. 

Dittfield is retired the Oneida County Department of Social Services where he worked as training coordinator.

This workshop is offered by the Utica Municipal Housing Authority (UMHA) Outreach Center at the Utica Public Library which educates the community and provide services in areas such as financial literacy, job training programs, and housing assistance. 

The UMHA operates the Center at the Utica Public Library every Monday and Tuesday night, its announcement added.

The program is funded by the U.S. Corporation for National and Community Service, NYS Commission on National and Community Service, and the United Way of the Valley and the Utica Area.
