Tenney seeks new effort on health care
BY DAN GUZEWICH
Rep. Claudia L. Tenney is signaling that the bid for health care reform isn’t over, despite being dealt a major defeat when the GOP declined to vote on a health care bill that faced failure in the House of Representatives.
“... I remain committed to repealing Obamacare and replacing it with a high quality, patient centric plan that will improve and restore our health care system for all,” said the first-term congresswoman after the bill that would have dismantled the signature health legislation of the Obama administration was withdrawn Friday.
She supports the seven-year-old Republican promise to repeal the Affordable Care Act, also called Obamacare, but with differences from the American Health Care Act that failed to pick up enough support from the majority GOP in the House. Democrats in the House were uniformly opposed to the GOP replacement.
Tenney, R-22, New Hartford, never definitively said in advance how she was going to vote on the American Health Care Act. The House Republican plan to replace the Affordable Care Act would have increased the number of people without health insurance by 24 million, according to the Congressional Budget Office.
“Going forward, Congress should work together to find a plan that won’t leave anyone behind, especially our most vulnerable and those who are truly needy,” said Tenney. “Throughout this process, I will continue to listen to the concerns of my constituency and bring their feedback to Congress.”
Tenney continues to rail against Obamacare.
“Under Obamacare, American families are spending a larger share of their income on premiums and deductibles than ever before,” she said. “Patients have been hurt, doctors have been burdened, and families and taxpayers are being crushed by this terrible law and its thousands of pages of onerous regulations. Our most vulnerable citizens, seniors, the hardworking middle-class and veterans, are in worse shape now than they were before.”
