Economic panel to hold outreach meeting Oct. 25

Mohawk Valley Economic Development District, Inc. (MVEDD) will hold an outreach meeting on a comprehensive economic development strategy on Oct. 25 at 10 a.m. at the Oneida County Department of Planning, Union Station at 321 Main St. in Utica.

During the annual update session on the strategy as required by the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA), the MVEDD agency will receive input and review comments on information to be provided to the federal government.

Discussion topics will include a draft listing of capital projects for the county and its municipalities, development of the MVEDD work program, examination of current MVEDD goals, and review of county economic milestones from the previous year.

MVEDD staff also will receive any information that may be used to provide economic statistics describing the local region including summary of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and challenges. Comments will be compiled and submitted to the federal government by yearend, said the MVEDD agency. It also will hold economic development strategy outreach meetings in the counties of Schoharie, Oct. 23; Herkimer, Oct. 25; Otsego, Oct. 30; Montgomery, Oct. 31; Fulton, Oct. 31.

MVEDD requests and distributes federal EDA funding for projects in a six-county region.

The agency is separate from the Mohawk Valley Regional Economic Development Council, affiliated with an annual state program that awards funding for projects in a 10-county area.
