A donated racing drone that will be on display, and a “build, fly & take home” drone workshop, are among upcoming activities for CNY Drones, a local volunteer group promoting drone-related activities.

• A Swift 2 racing drone and transmitter donated by the SwellPro company will be on display at the Wings and Wheels event which is Aug. 19 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Masonic Care Community in Utica. It also will be at the New York State Fair’s STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math) Exhibit on Aug. 26 and 27, said CNY Drones.

The SwellPro response comes during CNY Drones’ current solicitation of business and industry for annual sponsorships. As CNY Drones continues to receive requests for interactive STEM demonstrations, the group said, it hopes to gain support to cover drones and other demonstration equipment costs.

• A Tiny Whoop Drone Build, Fly & Take Home workshop will be held Oct. 15 from noon-4 p.m. at the Utica Jewish Community Center for ages 11 and up.

The event is for those who may have tried a drone, but want to know where to begin as a hobbyist, said CNY Drones. Experienced drone enthusiasts will share their knowledge and encourage new drone owners to join in future events. A netted test flight zone will allow flyers to get practice with the help of experienced pilots in a controlled environment.

The workshop fee is $375. Participants will receive their own drone frame, electronics, motor, wiring, transmitter, camera, goggles, batteries and charging station. Step-by-step instructions will be provided. Pre-registration with payment is required by noon on Oct. 4. For more information, visit CNYDrones.org or email CNYDrones@gmail.com.
