Author to donate proceeds from book to Center for Missing & Exploited Children
Best-selling local author Nancy Troast Waldeck alongside Scriptor Publishing Group will present a $250 donation to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children — New York/Mohawk Valley (NCMEC-NY/MV) on Monday, Nov. 19.
The donation represents proceeds from the Amazon bestselling book Rise Above: 8 Stories of Life Transformation, a collaborative book of stories about overcoming obstacles and transforming your life. Waldeck was one of eight authors to publish a story in the book.
The donation will take place at 10 a.m. at the NCMEC-NY/MV’s Utica office, 934 York St.
Waldeck was the sixth grade teacher to Sara Anne Wood who disappeared 25 years ago from the Town of Litchfield.
Wood’s disappearance and search efforts ultimately led to the creation of the NCMEC-NY/MV office.
The other seven authors featured in the book are from all over the country, but together they voted to donate the proceeds to NCMEC-NY/MV.
Kelli O’Brien Watson, owner of Scriptor Publishing Group, also has a connection to the cause. Watson volunteered for the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children for 15 years as school coordinator for the Ride for Missing Children and as president of the Advisory Board.
The donation will support the main purpose of the Utica office as the only geographically targeted poster distribution center in the U.S.
Posters are sent to saturate locations carefully chosen where children and abductors might be found.
Approximately 10,000 to 17,000 posters are sent out for 7 to 12 missing children in one week’s time from the office to contribute to the mission, “Making Our Children Safer…One Child At A Time.”
