Clinton grad earns weekly baseball honors
SYRACUSE — Clinton High School graduate and Le Moyne College redshirt junior Andrew Taft was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Hitter of the Week on Wednesday.
Taft, who was also named Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week on Monday, slashed .529/.619/1.471 in the Dolphins’ weekend series with Shippensburg. Taft also added five home runs, 12 RBIs and scored eight runs. In the opening game of the series, Taft went 2-for-3 with a home run with two RBIs and three runs scored in Le Moyne’s 11-1 win Saturday afternoon. In the nightcap, Taft hit another homer and had two more RBIs in the Dolphins’ 8-7 win.
In Sunday’s first game, he went 2-for-4 with another homer and three RBIs as the Dolphins lost 4-3 and in the nightcap, he went 4-for-5 with two home runs and five RBIs and three runs scored in a 12-11 loss.
Taft leads the Dolphins with a team-high .379 batting average with a .486 on-base percentage, .793 slugging percentage, 22 hits, six home runs, six doubles, 21 RBIs and 20 runs scored. He also leads the NE-10 in hits, home runs, RBIs and runs scored.
