Bielby, Purrington named to NCCC Sports Hall

SARANAC LAKE — Former Rome Catholic High hockey standouts Glen Bielby and J.R. Purrington were inducted as inaugural members of the North Country Community College Hall of Fame.

They were inducted in coordination with the NCCC 50th anniversary celebration during a ceremony on Sept. 22.

Purrington, a 1986 graduate of NCCC, was team captain of the 1983-84 RCH hockey team and was a four-time all-star for the Redwings. He holds career and single-season RCH records for points, goals and assists.

Bielby, a 1987 NCCC graduate, was co-captain of the 1984-85 RCH hockey team and was also a four-time all-star for the Redwings. Their third-leading all time scorer, he holds RCH records for career points, goals and assists for a defenseman.

The NCCC Hall of Fame recognizes individuals who through participation, support, or lifetime achievements have made outstanding contributions to NCCC athletics. The first class of inductees were chosen from the first 30 years of the college’s athletic program, from 1967 to 1997. Future classes will be named every five years.
