Murphy spent seven years as the head coach of the men’s lacrosse program and compiled an overall record of 57-51 and 26-26 in Patriot League games.
Under his direction, Colgate made five Patriot League Tournament appearances, winning league championships in 2012 and 2015.
During his tenure, Colgate had four Patriot League Rookies of the Year and seven All-American selections.
“We thank Mike for his hard work and service to our university and department,” Colgate vice president and director of athletics Nicki Moore said in a statement on the Colgate web site.
“We wish him the very best moving forward.”
School officials said a national search for his successor begins immediately.
