Western Historical Society meets Thursday

The Town of Western Historical Society will meet Thursday, Oct. 12, at 7 p.m. at the Western Town Hall.

The program is “A Soldier’s View of the Struggles of the Afghan People”. The speaker will be Rev. Jeff Courter. He will give a program on his experiences in Afghanistan. Rev. Courter had been in the Navy Reserves for many years when the 911 attacks happened. He transferred to the Army National Guard in order to help more directly.

In 2006 Courter was sent to Afghanistan to work as an embedded trainer with the Afghan National Army. He was assigned to work with the Afghan Border Patrol close to the Pakistan border in Paktika Province where he served through 2007.
