Fusion Art Gallery, in The Photo Shoppe, 8584 Turin Road, will host a gallery opening on Tuesday, Feb. 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. featuring the paintings of Elizabeth Abbott. The opening is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served.

Known as the “Grandma Moses of Rome” by friends, Abbott began her painting career in 1989 at the age of 62.

She has been very active in the genre, taking classes and displaying her work. Abbott’s paintings have been on display in the Rome area as well as in Fort Walton Beach, Fla.

Abbott is a lifetime member of the Rome Art Association. She enjoys painting a variety of subjects, featuring scenes from travels around the country. Abbott feels that “painting is a wonderful way to appreciate the beauty of God’s creation.”

Having recently celebrated her 90th birthday, Abbott continues to express her creativity through jewelry design and crocheting. Abbott best summed up her outlook by stating “you’re never too old to try something new.”

The show will be on display in the Fusion Gallery from Feb. 6-23. The Photo Shoppe is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
